Dry winter conditions, warm days when the ground is still frozen and chilly winds can all pull moisture from foliage, leaving broadleaf shrubs and trees vulnerable to excessive moisture loss. Since the plant cannot draw moisture from its roots in frozen ground, the leaves can shrivel up, turn brown, and die. In severe cases, the entire shrub can die from desiccation.
An anti-transpirant spray for all your plant material at this time of year can be very helpful for your plants. This spray coats the leaves of the plant and forms a colorless film on the leaf surface to help inhibit water loss. This also allows the plant to retain moisture over the winter months.
