It is very important to avoid cutting the grass too short, especially when the weather is very hot. During hot weather, your lawn has to put a lot of energy into re-growing grass shoots. The optimum height for most types of grasses is 2 to 3 inches. Measure your grass with a ruler to check the height. If you prefer your lawn to be a little shorter or taller, that is fine, too.
Just remember that whatever the type of grass you have, cutting it too short damages the grass, increases evaporation in hot weather, and can damage the soil health, too.
Even if your lawn is growing quickly, cut it more often, such as twice per week instead of once per week.
